Donald E. McCroskey, 80, of Washington County, Virginia passed away on
Saturday, June 27, 2014, at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee following an
extended illness. He was born in Bristol, VA on December 11, 1933, a son of the
late Robert F. McCroskey and Ella P. Worley-McCroskey.
He was a was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a member
of Fellowship Chapel. Donald was a graduate of Valley Institute High School
and was a machinist with Raytheon for 35 years. He loved to farm, hunt, guns,
and motorcycles. Donald was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather,
son, and brother. He was very friendly and loved being social with people. He
will be greatly missed by family and friends. Most of all, he loved his Lord,
his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren brothers and sisters.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Fleenor-McCroskey;
three daughters, Sharon M. Cunningham and her husband Larry, Donna Brown and her
husband Bob, and Millie Parker and her husband Tracy; three sons, Gary McCroskey,
James McCroskey and his wife Lisa, and Robert McCroskey and his friend
Amanda Haworth; grandchildren, Jeremiah McCroskey and his wife Julie, Jonathan
McCroskey and his friend Mollie, Elizabeth Galliher and her husband Will,
Jacob McCroskey and his wife Jacqueline, Brandon Cunningham and his wife Brandi,
Paige Wingate and her husband Josh, Zane McCroskey, Wyatt McCroskey and
Mason Parker; great-grandchildren include, Elijah McCroskey, Mary Frances
McCroskey, Laurie McCroskey, Ella McCroskey and Azleigh M. Cunningham; his
sisters, Virginia Roberts, Brenda Carrier, and Margie Sculthrope; his brothers,
Richard McCroskey and Arthur McCroskey. The family would like to express a
special thank you to all the nurses and caregivers at Home Healthcare and
Wellmont Hospice House for all the love and care shown to Donald during his
illness, and a special Thank You to Margaret Jones and Freddie Odum.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, June, 30, 2014, at
Fleenor Memorial Church Cemetery, 16411 Fleenor's Memorial Road Bristol, VA
with Rev. Scott Price officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside
service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45am. In lieu of flowers, the
family is requesting that donations be made to Wellmont Hospice House, 280
Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
